Engineering Supervisor
ZF Transmissions Gray Court

Position Summary: The Engineering supervisor is responsible for managing, leading and supervising service engineers and technicians in the planning and executive of service function initiatives within an assigned territory/ part of the organizational structure. This includes design and implementation of service plans, commissioning/upgrade projects, and related support procedures to ensure the maintainability, reliability, and availability of test systems. In addition to supporting internal departments the supervisor will support business development, capacity, continuity as well as service and support of end-of-line and R&D related test equipment at the customer.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead, direct and evaluate the work of service engineers and technicians to ensure completion of service activities and related initiatives (i.e. commissioning, installation, repair, upgrade, etc.).
  • Evaluate service operations, create and modify work/service instructions, review work results of service personnel, and maintain project budget.
  • Generate service business opportunities and manage the cost/ profit responsibility for the service business portion.
  • Assign projects to service personnel to develop, implement, and support service operations within the territory
  • Track tasks and project timelines and ensure the optimization of services and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage and oversee all test systems service, test systems equipment upgrades, spare parts, and services.
  • Coordinate and supervise the procurement, installation, and upgrade of equipment and parts.
  • Lead evaluation of service requirements and internal business capacity to assist with the development of resource and business planning activities.
  • Manage cost analysis procedures for service projects and ongoing service support in order to develop cost models for pricing and quotation preparation for spare parts and service activities/projects.
  • Lead in the development and implementation of technical processes and concepts for the optimized service, maintenance, calibration, and upgrading of test systems.
  • Coordinate activities with the supervisors in other territories and regions to increase collaboration between other departments, divisions and business units
  • Determine equipment requirements in conjunction with global and local business colleagues.
  • Manage group performance, implement performance metrics and measure ongoing performance.
  • Ensure positive employee relations and provide support on employee feedback surveys.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies to improve awareness/understanding of state-of-the-art testing equipment/methods.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with all ZF corporate policies, and divisional directives
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Essential Skills and Experience:
  • B.S. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 8-10+ years of advanced professional engineering experience in a technical sales or service environment, specifically focused on automotive production / automation
  • Experience in the demanding / fast pace Automotive Industry
  • 2+ years of project management and/or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with controls engineering and/or software/hardware for electric drive systems or sensor applications
  • Experience with Siemens Step7/ Rockwell, Allen Bradley automation modules
  • Experience with Robotics technology (i.e. Fanuc, Kuka, etc.)
  • Experience with developing technical processes and solutions for test systems service operations
  • Expert-level knowledge of Hydraulics/Pneumatics/Mechanical components/parts functionalities
  • Proven ability to read engineering drawings/prints (both mechanical and electrical) in DIN/ISO standard format (in metrics)
  • Proven ability to analyze blueprints and use mathematics to evaluate/understand complex machine drawings
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, SAP, (CAD system knowledge welcome)
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management
  • Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

    Preferred Skills and experience:
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, etc.
  • 4+ years Team lead experience by managing/directing others in addition to delegating/tracking independent work assignments and training programs
  • Experience with automotive test systems
