Position Summary: Environmental Health and Safety Intern / Co-op

Position Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with EHS professionals and other department leaders to accurately document current practices with other regulatory topics and local directives.
  • Candidate would be assigned to one of three projects. Hearing Conservation Program, Ergonomics Program, or Energy conservation.
  • Majority of the time will be spent in the production area walking or standing to collect data.
  • Work with engineers to resolve any issues that are identified during noise studies including calling outside vendors, setting up meetings and hosting vendors who may be presenting solutions
  • Data collection for noise levels by using noise monitoring equipment
  • Data collection for Ergonomics by interviewing employees, observing the process, taking videos, and collecting surveys
  • Data collection and analysis for energy conservation project
  • Assist with required documentation for achieving ISO 50001 including writing programs
  • Enter Contractor names into the web-based software system
  • Lifting to 40 pounds to weigh parts may occasionally be required
  • Assist with day -to-day tasks answering employee questions related to local policies, issuing badges and payment vouchers for personal protective equipment
    Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Must currently be enrolled in college as a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student
  • Must have a 3.0 grade point average (gpa) on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
  • Must be able to write in a clearly understandable and professional style
  • Must be proficient with using web-based software to enter data
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of professionalism and conform to HIPPA privacy expectations.
  • Must be able to use a printer/scanner/copy machine
  • Must be able to create electronic folders, save documents, change file names, crop and resize images in Microsoft Office products
    Preferred Skills and experience:
  • Successful completion of Human Factors and Ergonomics Engineering course
  • Previous knowledge of OSHA and NFPA regulations (OHSA 30-hour course completion card preferred)
  • Knowledge of North American Ergonomics Standards and basic understanding of OSHA regulations will be helpful to this position.
