Position Summary:

The Project Manager is responsible for managing the successful progression of customer products from design freeze to product launch for customers, within the specified drive axle program. This position is in charge of managing the change management process for serial production and new launch projects, within the assigned drive axle program, from concept through production release, while directing program team members and associated management through successful completion of the program, both within time and budgetary constraints, all while adhering to ZF company standards/policy and customer requirements. Represents bevel gear production engineering and support all business functions to ensure that products are manufactured to design intend and do meet the specified performance metrics.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages and leads cross-functional team on large-scale projects from concept to successful completion.
  • Leads communication between ZF-EA Manufacturing Plant and ZF-EA Design Engineering.
  • Ensure proper technical documentation pursuant to IATF procedures and requirements in the different ZFI-G systems (SAP, Axalant, PPM Pro, SharePoint, etc.) This will involve interaction with members of other ZF EA BU facilities i.e. THY, GNS, etc.
  • Supports Engineering and Purchasing in the realization of cost reduction programs and participates in these programs.
  • Manage and oversee all program management activities to support internal and external customers.
  • Work with OEM and ZF executive and senior management on the definition and transition of program responsibilities from global R&D into applications engineering organization, specifically focused on defining, developing, and directing program structure, guidelines, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Project tracking and successful completion of Gate Releases through production release.
  • Engineering Change Implementation and Compliance with ZFI-G quality management system.
  • Accurate and effective Manufacturing System documentation.
  • Perform related tasks as needed.

    Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 6+ years of advanced experience required. Advanced experience must include: project management, gear engineering, and field/service experience.
  • Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint & PPM Pro.
  • IATF and ISO 4001 Awareness Training.
  • Knowledge of A3, 5S, and Six Sigma problem-solving methodology.
  • Familiarity with plant operations related to gear manufacturing process steps including carburizing as well as assembly of axle components.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Project.
  • Ability to influence and engage at multiple levels within internal and external organizations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability/willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Fluent in English language.

    Preferred Skills and experience:

  • Technical Bachelor's degree.
  • 4+ years of gear engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • 4+ years of field or service experience.
  • 2+ years of resident engineering.
  • General knowledge of the structural, procedural, and technical facets of a drive axle development project.
  • Leadership ability and general experience with mentoring, motivation, and conflict management.
  • Proficient with SAP.
  • Proficient with Axalant.
  • German language skills.

    Physical demands and work environment: This position is required to do extensive walking through factory environment production areas. Required to frequent lift and/or carry up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Must be able to climb, kneel, pull, push, carry, twist, bend, forward reach and reach above shoulder level on an occasion. Required to frequently sit, stoop, and stand continuously. Required to use fine and gross motor skills, firm hand gripping, and repetition to handle physical parts. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Must be able to perceive the nature of sounds at normal range; includes the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound. Environmental exposures may include dust, fumes, odors, loud noises, and chemicals.
