Position Description

The Project Manager III is responsible for managing, without the need for significant direction, predominantly Category 0 and 1 and projects within the division in accordance with ZF’s new product introduction management process requirements. The project manager is responsible to interface with all areas affected by the project, ensuring successful integration of all project work products.


Position Requirements

  • To lead cross functional teams to deliver the objectives for new product introduction projects, ensuring effective use of the GDPEP gateway process and the relevant functional processes (C40, A69, APQP)
  • Manage to achieve flawless launch of programs, ensuring thoroughness in defining and execution of project deliverables, generation and maintaining of project timing schedules, open issues lists, risk registers and change management control, capacity, setting team priorities and leading the cross functional teams to meet the agreed targets.
  • Monitor and control the financial performance of the project to meet / exceed CQA baseline with critical focus on BOM %, DVP % ER&D and CAPEX and to manage and report customer recoveries.
  • Escalate critical issues in a timely manner and to the appropriate level to ensure their rapid resolution.
  • Own the interface to the customer (internal and OEM) and ensuring effective program status communication is maintained.
  • Provide timely and effective communication on all aspects of the program to internal stakeholders up to and including ZF Senior Management.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in project management, engineering or related technical field required.
  • Experience: minimum of 2 years Project Management experience through the whole product life cycle. Six to ten years of experience in the automotive industry.
  • Must demonstrate achievement orientation and initiative, concern for order, quality and accuracy.

  • Must demonstrate high levels of interpersonal communication skills with the ability to impact and influence others.

  • Must demonstrate organizational awareness with superior organizational commitment and commercial intuition.
  • Must exhibit proven team leadership capabilities.
  • Must demonstrate competency in ZF product design fundamentals, automotive APQP processes, PPAP/ ISO processes, manufacturing knowledge, and financial management basics (capex and non-recurring cost mgt.).
  • Must demonstrate competency with Project Management fundamentals and A focus on program management as a profession through continuous learning.
  • Receive and act on feedback on performance from Manager of Programs with input from project team and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of program management processes and tools using Lean, VA-VE, Six Sigma, and DFSS methodologies.
  • Must achieve the appropriate business unit requirements for PMI / Prince 2 and Six Sigma certifications. Experienced and proficient in GDPEP processes would be an advantage.


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • MBA preferred, although additional business management education / experience will be considered.
