This position is within the Braking Business Unit, Customer Application & System Engineering Department, Central Lab Group.

Job Title: Prototype Build Technician

Department: Prototype Build-Test-Inspection Labs.

Reports To: Prototype Lab Supervisor

Short Description: Responsible for the assembly, test and inspection of prototype brake components.

Education Level: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate Degree preferred.

Job Functions / Tasks:
  • Assemble, inspect and test braking components according to engineering drawings, specifications, build procedures and control plans.
  • Perform in process checks, final inspection, and audits
  • Setup of manual and semi-automatic assembly as well as test verification equipment.
  • Review build data and test results and document accordingly
  • Provide input into build and test procedures to engineering
  • Fabricate and modify fixtures
  • Program electronic nut-runners and servo presses
  • Work with AME team to implement and improve build processes
  • Document any deviation from specified procedures
  • Work with engineering team to resolve build/test issues.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Lab Supervisor.
Essential Skills and Experience (Minimum):
  • Minimum of 1-3 years in any mechanical “hands-on” environment.
  • Good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic competence to read and interpret drawings and engineering specifications.
  • Experience basic hand tools (i.e. Torque wrenches, sockets wrenches, and screw drivers...etc.)
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Basic Microsoft Office Suite knowledge including Exel, Powerpoint, and Word
  • Flexible to changing work schedules and adjust to changes in daily assigned responsibilities.
  • Able to adjust to a fast pace environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience (Preferred):
  • 5+ years in an automotive lab environment
  • Familiar with the use of measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators,
  • Basic knowledge of function of automotive systems.
  • Machine shop skills, mill, lathe
  • Familiar with various types of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, pressure gages, voltmeters load cells, etc.
  • Basic LabView experience.
  • Previous technical automotive experience a plus.
  • Prior equipment programming experiences a plus.
  • Experience with VBA or Diadem a plus
  • Advanced Excel and/or Access a plus
