Technical Project Engineer - Northville

Responsible for providing a technical leadership role during the designing, developing and implementation of products to ensure the on-time development of reliable products that are cost effective, able to be manufactured, meet customer specifications and maintain company standards.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership of project engineering team, taking them through the quotation, execution and start of volume production phases.
  • Responsible for technology, scheduling and deadlines and development costs in development projects.
  • Technical planning, controlling and managing of projects in conjunction with the Program Management.
  • Being the point of contact for the customer and checking and implementing customer requirements with internal and external partners
  • Cross-locational leadership of an international project team of engineers
  • Liaison between the R&D Basic Development team, Europe Core Technology team and the Direct Customer Team of North America.
  • Execute change management process for released product designs.
  • Lead Product Development Team in the development of automotive products in accordance with customer timing and requirements.
  • Ensure system development, validation, and delivery are according to guidelines and processes (e.g. ISO26262, DOORS, etc.).
  • Read and interpret customer specifications and ensure these requirements are documented and incorporated into the product design.
  • Ensure test and analysis coverage validates that the design meets all the requirements.
  • Participates in the development of Mechanical, Electrical, Hardware and Software specifications.
  • Coordinate parts procurement for mock up builds (development/characterization).
  • Participate in reviews as necessary.
  • Ensure technical issues associated with customer are resolved.
  • Act as primary technical contact for the customer.
  • Provide development objectives by reviewing proposals and plans; conferring with Program Management.
  • Estimate time required to complete assignments.
  • Ensure that an approved detailed drawing package and technical document reports are provided for final product design.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Ensure compliance with the ZF Quality Management System requirements (ZF QMS) which includes IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and Customer Specific Requirements (CSR).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's in Mechatronics/Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 3 - 4 years experience in systems and hardware of complex projects (internship/co-op included)
  • Experience in successful series of introduction in automotive projects
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to influence and engage at multiple levels within internal and external organizations
  • English language competency - both oral and written
  • Excellent project and planning abilities
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Superior interpersonal, communications and listening skills
  • Strong drive for teamwork with a customer-oriented approach to projects
  • Experience with Microsoft® Word and Excel, PowerPoint

    Preferred Skills and experience:

  • Experience in the Automotive and/or Electronics industries
  • German and/or Spanish language skills
  • Microsoft® Project
  • Knowledge of DOORS, Clear Case/Clear Quest
  • Knowledge of ISO26262
