Job Description

ZF currently has an opening in the Controls Design and Development group in Division A, which is responsible for delivering Performance Feature subsystem software releases to internal program application teams. The Performance Feature subsystem must be capable of meeting customer and internal performance requirements, as well as SW quality requirements. Examples of Performance Features include Anti-Lock Brake, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control and related brake-control functions.
The ideal candidate will possess many of these attributes, and demonstrate a sincere interest in growing the remainder. For the current position we are especially interested in candidates with background or interest in hydraulic valve, actuation, motor control development or other mechatronics-related disciplines. Additionally, we are looking for a highly motivated, flexible, team oriented individual that will adapt well in our lean environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Supporting all phases of the algorithm and software development, implementation, and release processes.
  • Work within a team comprised of controls and software specialists which produces subsystem releases. Releases are utilized by application program teams, and may vary in scope from maintenance updates, to the introduction of new state-of-the-art functionality.
  • Interface between algorithm, advanced controls, software, and vehicle application groups to address system and subsystem issues as they arise on specific customer programs
  • Interface with customers, support vehicle demonstrations.
  • Interface with development groups overseas in support of globally common core design.
  • Maintain development plan, create/update design description documents, subsystem interface documents, calibration manuals, and test plans/reports. Conduct periodic design reviews and training.
  • The team operates globally, with engineers located locally as well as in Germany and Japan. Algorithm development activities utilize both simulation and vehicle environments. Travel to test tracks, and to our overseas offices is therefore required (4 to 10 weeks per year).
Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • At least one year of automotive engineering experience working in product development with a focus on vehicle braking systems / embedded controller design.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt / Green Belt certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of vehicle and tire dynamics principles.
  • Knowledge of brake pressure modulation hardware architectures and related control strategies.
  • Knowledge of modern controls techniques and theory.
  • Capability and/or interest in driving vehicles in highly dynamic maneuvers.
  • Ability to read and write embedded c-code.
  • Knowledge of simulation development tools such as Matlab / Simulink.
  • Ability to work hands-on with vehicles and instrumentation.
  • Background or interest in hydraulic valve, actuation, motor control development or other mechatronics-related disciplines. ~cb~
