Position Summary:

The role of the Engineering Lab Specialist is to perform functions within the PESC Engineering Test Facility environment with minimal supervision based on work orders submitted. The individual must have the ability, experience, and education necessary to effectively set up and maintain all tests run in the Engineering Test Lab. These tests include but are not limited to: transmission/clutch/engine dynamometer durability testing, components testing, mechatronic testing, vehicle test runs, transmission/clutch teardown and evaluation, and inspection equipment evaluation. This individual will also be using spreadsheet, word, and data table capabilities ofthe latest computer software. A moderate amount of travel will be required.

Position Responsibilities:

• Excellence in test execution, reporting, and documenting test results to service all customers of the Engineering Test Lab.

• Setup, configure, and operate dynamometers, fixtures, and instrumentation as required by test plans, test standards, and customer instructions.

• Diagnose and repair various electrical /electronic automotive system

• Perform test setup, follow test procedures and execute lab work orders. Maintain test equipment, tools, and gauges.

• Utilize instrumentation such as accelerometers, displacement transducers, pressure transducers, datarecorders, speed pick-ups, thermocouples, and microphones to complete work tasks.

• Perform assembly/disassembly of transmission, inspection, and retrofitting to vehicle.

• Visually inspects and tests electrical system or equipment, using testing devices such as oscilloscope, voltmeter, and ammeter, to determine malfunctions.

• Measures, cuts, and installs framework and conduit to support and connect wiring, control panels, and junction boxes, using hand tools.

• Assemble and disassemble all ZF automatic transmission and clutch assemblies and subassemblies.

• Evaluate transmission and clutch failures and document findings as necessary.

• Fabricate and install prototype wiring harnesses and test instruments.

• Cuts openings and drills holes for fixtures, outlet boxes, and fuse holders, using electric drill and router.

• Follow the procedures and specifications established by the divisions R&D center

• Follow safe practices.

• Comply with all ZF written environmental and quality policies.

• Working with manager/supervisor to identify and completed skills enhancement training.

• Travel up to 25% during training period. Initial travel may exceed this amount due to training in / travel to Germany.

• Other duties as it relates to this position.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• AA degree required with focus on electrical engineering technology.

• Powertrain dynamometer experience.

• PLC, AC\DC Drives, and hydraulic/pneumatic system experience.

• Working knowledge (Electrical & Mechanical) of powertrain/vehicle system.

• Experience of working in a machine shop with basic knowledge of machining, drilling, and fabrication.

• Punctual, effective communication, flexible, and strong work ethic

• Knowledge of simple electrical systems as applicable to troubleshooting or instrumenting test setups.

• Knowledge of measurement techniques, hydraulics and vehicle techniques

• Must possess a strong mechanical inclination to understand and assemble innovative prototype designs.

• Ability to work independently and decisiveness
• Must be able to work in a team setting and participate actively.

• Must be available to travel and stay at various main locations.

• Willingness to take initiative to obtain training and certification where needed.

• Skills necessary to efficiently operate a personal computer on a daily basis, including but not limited to MS

• Access, MS Word, and MS Excel.
