Position Description:

ZF's Occupant Safety Systems (OSS) and Steering division is seeking a Senior Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist to manage all HSE systems and processes for our Washington Township and Romeo facilities.

Position Requirements:

  • Coordinate the development and integration of EHS policies, programs and procedures for compliance with EHS requirements of ZF Group and regulatory agencies (local, state/provincial, national).
  • Remain current on all environmental, health and safety compliance regulations and requirements for the facility and maintain compliance related plans,
    procedures and documents.
  • Manage EHS training required by regulations and ZF requirements.
  • Implement and manage the sites conformance to the ZF EHS Management System.
  • Develop and administer site wide emergency response procedures.
  • Establish and oversee safety programs and committees in ergonomics, accident investigation and health and wellness promotion (in concert with allied function staff).
  • Manage the facility chemical management system that includes tracking of all chemicals used at the facility and the related Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Manage all waste disposal activities at the facility including but not limited to municipal trash, recyclable materials, biohazard waste, wastewater, waste oils and
    hazardous waste.
  • Act as the facility Security Coordinator and manage the site security program to minimize/contain significant and potential risks.
  • Track EHS corrective/improvement action plans and maintain status reports as directed.
  • Provide guidance/support/assistance to the Human Resources function in relation to their administration of the sites FirstAid Responder, Personal Protective
    Equipment and Workers Compensation programs.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • 6+ years of experience in manufacturing or product testing environment with emphasis on safety/environmental engineering or management.
  • Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision and must be capable of leading EHS Function activities as directed.
  • General knowledge and demonstrated understanding of EHS Management Systems and the requirements of ISO14001/OSHAS18001.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of EHS compliance requirements (local, state, national) for the facility.
  • General knowledge and understanding of industrial hygiene practices, procedures and data analysis and interpretation.
  • General knowledge and understanding of ergonomic principles and evaluation techniques. Experience with the Humantech System preferred.
  • Strong EHS employee training skills to lead employee and new hire training.
  • Experience with ATF explosive regulations and explosive safety practices is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe handling practices for occupant safety pyrotechnic devices, is preferred.
  • Professional certification (ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, analytical and problem-solving sills, communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Education Requirement:

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental or Safety Science/Engineering/Management or related technical major.
