Position Description

The Shipping/Receiving Supervisor is responsible for the shipment of product to customers both internationally and domestically. The Shipping/Receiving Supervisor is responsible for the accuracy of shipments and meeting all documented service requirements. This person plans, orders and directs all activities within the Shipping/Receiving Area. This position reports to the Materials Manager.


Position Requirements

  • Provides daily direction and leadership to the Shipping/Receiving team members; Makes recommendations for manpower needs including involvement in employee discipline in the Shipping/Receiving Department.
  • Accountable for staffing, training, motivation and leadership within area of responsibility; Develops a team work environment; Builds departmental standards for performance; Ensures that all employees in the Shipping/Receiving Area are properly trained
  • Ensures that materials shipped/received are verified against pertinent documentation
  • Establishes and maintains procedures for meeting company and customer delivery commitments
  • Recommends and assists in implementing operating procedures and promotes continual improvement within the department and the company
  • Follows shipping methods for materials using the operations procedures; Resolves emergent issues for expedited deliveries to the customer
  • Coordinates shipment of goods by scheduling containers to meet shipping demands
  • Interfaces with other departments to resolve problems with timely delivery or disposition of order cancellations
  • Involved in schedules and tracking of all inbound and outbound shipments
  • Ensures that daily goals are met and sustained daily/weekly/monthly
  • Ensures company policies and procedures are reviewed often and notifies the Materials Manager when such policies or procedures may need to be revised to increase work efficiency in the department
  • Identifies roadblocks to processes and procedures and offers suggestions for improvement
  • Oversees all incoming, outgoing and warehouse movements
  • Ensures that all manufactured products and raw materials are effectively managed to meet all US and foreign government export laws and regulations; Ensures accuracy and proper retention of all export documentation; Manages company’s compliance with applicable US and foreign export regulations
  • Occasionally creates bills of lading for outbound shipments.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 4-5+ years of progressive experience
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience or demonstrated supervisory skills required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Knowledge of and experience with all shipping functions, foreign and domestic, including domestic air bills, international commercial invoices and letters of instruction required
  • Knowledge of and experience with packaging materials used to safely transport all product required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to follow and issue verbal and written instructions and to direct the work of others to meet customer needs
  • Ability to work well under pressure and juggle multiple and changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Great attention to detail
  • Reliability and willingness to work 40+ hours a week to meet deadlines
  • Ability to build strong internal relationships with other departments
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative
  • Strong and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Willingness to learn and work to the best of his/her ability
